"Moondance"
"Moondance" December, 2021 Acrylic on canvas, unframed - 30" x 40"
Naples, FL copyright 2021 Jim Aylward.
$1,200 plus shipping if applicable.
I was imagining a full moon lighting a harbor, thus the silver "water" feature on top of a darkened tree / grassy area. The moon is super-high relief Iridescent Silver (Coarse) - heck, you can see and feel the craters on the moon. The stars are uniform in size. I call the squiggly lines "constellations" and those are in iridescent gold deep, iridescent gold fine and iridescent silver fine. Stars and constellations extend to the sides of the canvas. I was channeling Van Morrison during this effort - check the lyrics "Moondance". "Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies." Full lyrics included. ;)

Here's a fun pop art version of the Bentley logo. The silver wings are in ultra high relief - you've got feel them. The Bentley logo is on a field of Baby Blue, the most popular Bentley color. According to Bentley, the "Black Badge is for those who reject conformity and live on their own terms. It's for the innovators, trailblazers, rule-breakers — and above all — those who dare." Sounds about right to me. ;)

"Palette Intrigue Portfolio 1"
"Palette Intrigue Portfolio 1" - twenty 9" x 12" individual panels date from 2019-2021 Acrylic on canvas panels mounted on gatorboard 2021 - overall 45" x 48" each portfolio - Naples, FL copyright 2019 - 2021 Jim Aylward
$1500
“Palette Intrigue Portfolio 1” includes twenty (20) 9” x 12” individual abstract expressionist art works from approximately 2018-2021. Each work is acrylic paint on canvas board. These works are developed as I am painting other works – I keep several canvas boards nearby when I paint and any remaining paint goes to the boards / “palettes”. Some works are the result of several major works, but none are painted individually specifically. I call the pieces “Palette Intrigue” after the term Palace Intrigue – I never know how the pieces will turn out. While I have sold / gifted a number of individual PI pieces, I got the idea one day of massing them onto one large frame, creating a “portfolio” by combining many works into one. They are actually quite interesting, colorful and fun.

"Washashores among Whales"

Washashores
"Washashores" - July 2021 - Acrylic on canvas 18" x 24" - Naples, FL copyright 2021 Jim Aylward
$400 or $750 if paired with "Washashores among Whales"
There were many shipwrecks off Nantucket island before, during and after the whaling days. Some of these ships would wreck along the shifting sands of the Nantucket shoreline and materials and people would "wash ashore". These people were forever known as "washashores". This painting depicts "washashores" as small multicolor, heavy relief dots swimming in the waves toward the beach in ever shallower water.
Even after 27 years on Nantucket, my wife and I were referred to as "washashores", as do all off islanders who decide to live on island part or full time, by the native islanders. We didn't mind - it was just a fun Nantucket thing. :)

"The Long and Winding Road"
"The Long and Winding Road" - August 2021 - Acrylic on canvas 18" x 24" - Naples, FL copyright 2021 Jim Aylward
$300
"The Long and Winding Road" perplexed me for awhile. It was supposed to be something else, but took a turn and became what it is, which is actually a very interesting painting. The "dots" along the road are super high relief with iridescent gold, silver, bronze, etc. topped with other color iridescent and finally topped with glass beads. The "road" is heavy gold mica applied with a palette knife.
It could well be the "riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma" that Winston Churchill was thinking about when he said that.
Lead me to your door!

"Rosettes"
Rosettes - February 2020 - Acrylic on canvas, unframed - 48" x 72"
Naples, FL copyright 2020 Jim Aylward
Price: $2900 plus $210 shipping within USA (in a custom crate) if applicable.
This painting was on display at Hyde n Chic Restaurant.
I was channeling Willem de Kooning with this work. This is one of the most complex works I have done to date. Lots of texture from various pastes and gels, which is a big part of my abstract / expressionist style. Some of the large "rosettes" are built up with about an inch of a variety of gels and pastes. It is a complex effort - you may see various life forms throughout. All sides are painted.

"Miami Beat"
Miami Beat - May 2019 - Acrylic on canvas, unframed - 48” x 72"
Naples, FL copyright 2019 Jim Aylward
Price: $2900 plus $210 shipping within USA (in a custom crate) if applicable.
This painting was on display at Hyde n Chic Restaurant.
I set out to paint a large format a/e with colors that I like - Cadmium Orange, Teal and Iridescent Pearl. I first laid down my gels and other pastes, etc. to give the painting a super high relief. Then, I started to paint the center of the canvas in teal and orange. I added some red (using my fingers) for accent. I used palette knife for the entire painting, gaining texture along the way. I added the Iridescent Pearl toward the end, painting around the edges as they say. I didn't start out to paint a heart shaped object in the center, but that's how it came out! I added a rough Titanium White border, then I stepped back from the painting and immediately saw a heart shaped object in the center in the colors of the City of Miami / Miami Dolphins! So, thinking of the Miami Heat, Miami Vice, etc., I christened it "Miami Beat"! It's a really big painting, great for a large wall with a high ceiling. Really jumps off the wall!

Naples, FL copyright 2020 Jim Aylward.
This painting was on display at Hyde n Chic Restaurant.

LOVE is a pop art adaptation of Robert Indiana’s LOVE stamp produced in 1973. I enlarged the original stamp approximately 23X to fit within the 24” x 36” stretched canvas - a "feat of artistic engineering” as I like to say. I worked on this painting for a month to get it just right. I matched the colors, as best as I could, to the original colors, giving them a bit of a brighter, bolder hue than the original so it really pops off the wall. The green sections are painted with several shades of green, some with a sponge to give it the right texture. The rest was painted with various sizes of brushes. I painted the sides in several layers of iridescent gold deep (fine) to give it a modern, finished look. It’s a wonderful painting, a very bold pop art piece that gets your attention immediately! The painting includes a sheet of the original 1973 LOVE stamps and a First Day of Issue postmarked envelope from Philadelphia where the stamp was launched.
